Hi, my name is Luke — I’m a wild, happy, slightly crazy pup — and today I get to tell you a story. This isn’t just about camping near Maine (though that was pawsome). It’s also about how much I have learned over the last year.
🚐 The Adventure Begins
Mom and Dad loaded up the camper for a trip to the lake. At first, I worried they might forget me (they wouldn’t, of course), but soon we were driving off. Mom even stopped for new camping shoes at the L.L. Cote store — humans need gear too, I guess.
When we arrived, I noticed the campground was full of dogs. Uh-oh. I’m not always the calmest around other pups. Luckily, my humans have been working with my friend Liz from North Star Canine Connection to help me focus and stay cool when dogs are nearby.
🐕 A Dog-Friendly Campground
Our site had space, trees, and ferns — perfect for me to feel comfortable. I could see some dogs nearby, but they weren’t too close. That helped me relax.
The first night, though, was rough. I couldn’t settle, and Dad stayed up with me. We both woke up cranky. But after a morning walk, a nap, and a ride in the truck, I felt better. That’s when Dad brought out the bikes.
🚴 Running Free
Oh boy! Running with the bikes is my favorite thing. I was hooked up to Dad’s bike, and we flew down the trail. I ran as fast as I could, with Mom pedaling behind us (a little slower, but I love her anyway). Afterward, I was tired and ready to relax at camp.
🌊 Life by the Lake
Our campsite was right on the water — with a rocky beach and ducks everywhere! I love ducks. I lay in the sand, watched them fish, and played with Dad while Mom cooked breakfast over the fire.
Sometimes other dogs passed by, but thanks to our training, I handled it pretty well. I even practiced the skills I’ve been learning. Sure, I barked when other dogs barked at me first (hey, fair is fair), but I stayed calm most of the time. Progress!
🐾 Friends by the Fire
The next day, we rode bikes again, then relaxed at the lake. My best friend, Honeybee, arrived with her mom and stayed in the empty site next to us. Honeybee even made a path through the bushes so she could visit me! We spent the day watching boats and ducks, hanging out while our humans made dinner over the fire.
That night, Bee and I lay on the beach watching the sunset. I slept so well, only to be woken up early by crazy Honeybee bouncing onto our porch. What a way to say goodbye to camp!
💌 From Luke’s Humans
Now, Mom wants to say something. A few months ago, I was spinning out of control — so reactive that even a short walk or car ride was stressful. Training with Liz at North Star Canine Connection has changed everything. Camping last year was hard. Camping this year was joyful.
Training is a marathon, not a sprint. 🐾
Here’s to another year of growth
🐶 With love,
Luke (and Mom & Dad)
